4x17 - The Ice Girl Cometh

Raven and Chelsea are sitting opposite each other at a table in the Chill Grill restaurant. Victor walks over to them.

VICTOR

You girl's ready to order?

RAVEN

No, we're actually waiting on Chelsea's mom.

A musical horn is heard playing outside.

CHELSEA

And that would be her.

Two waiters at the door jump to the side as Chelsea's mom, Joni, comes in riding on an electric scooter.

JONI

Don't worry everybody. Whoo, I'm in total control.

Joni jumps off the scooter when it crashes into a nearby table. The occupants run off. Joni walks over to Chelsea's table.

JONI

Sorry I'm late. Got stuck behind a baby stroller. What can you do? Group hug!

Joni signals for the girls to come up, and they hug into her either side.

JONI (waving at Victor)

Everybody's included.

Victor joins on Raven's end with a forced smile.

JONI (to a nearby waiter)

Everybody.

The waiter joins in the hug as well. A few seconds later, Raven looks down at her watch.

RAVEN

Okay, I'm good.

They all release from the hug – Raven and Chelsea go back to the table, and the waiter walks off behind the counter. Joni takes her helmet off and approaches Victor.

JONI (about the scooter)

Hey, Victor. Wanna' give her a whorl?

VICTOR

Oh, I dunno'. I've never really driven one of these things before.

JONI

Victor! You can do anything if you truly believe.

Joni pops the helmet on Victor's head.

VICTOR

You know what? I do believe.

JONI

Oh yeah.

Victor chuckles and steps up onto the scooter.

VICTOR

Just like this?

JONI

Yeah.

As Victor backs out, he looses control of the scooter and goes flying out the front entrance, banging into all kinds of things along the way. Raven, Chelsea and Joni call out after him when they hear a loud crash outside with a siren.

VICTOR (VO)

I'm okay.

RAVEN (shrugging)

He's okay.

OPENING CREDITS

***

Later on, Raven is sat opposite Chelsea and Joni at the table in the restaurant as they enjoy lunch. They hear the same musical horn outside from the scooter.

RAVEN

Oh, that's dad.

The three of them get up and run to the door as the horn sounds for a second time. Victor comes rolling in on the scooter with traditional Chinese decorations all over him.

RAVEN (to Victor)

Are you okay?

VICTOR

Yeah, I finally got the hang of it around China town. Oh, and apparently, I picked you up some egg rolls.

Victor hands Raven a small cardboard basket.

VICTOR

Enjoy.

Victor smiles as he rides off into the kitchen on his scooter. Raven, Chelsea and Joni head back and sit down at the table.

JONI

So Raven, I rented this really cool cabin in the woods.

RAVEN

Oh, that's good.

CHELSEA

Uh yeah, my mom and I are having this overnight bonding retreat.

RAVEN

Oh, that's sweet.

JONI

And we would love for you to join us.

RAVEN

That's so...(realizes what she has been asked)...huh, what?

CHELSEA

So Rae, what do you think?

RAVEN

Bonding? (Chelsea and Joni nod) The three of us? (Chelsea and Joni nod again) Overnight? (Chelsea and Joni nod for the third time) In a cabin? (for the fourth time, Chelsea and Joni nod) Bonding?

CHELSEA

Yeah, Rae! Exactly. Around the clock fun.

JONI

We thought since your mom's in England, maybe you'd like to spend a little mother-daughter time (looks at Chelsea) with us.

Joni and Chelsea lean in together and grin at Raven.

RAVEN (unsure what to say)

Ummm...that's sweet. But, you know what? I-I think I'd just be in the way.

Joni places a hand on Raven's arm.

JONI

Please, Raven. You know you're like a daughter to me.

Chelsea places her hand on top of Joni's hand on Raven's arm.

CHELSEA

Me to.

Raven gives an unsure smile.

JONI

You know, we'll have plenty of time to get in touch with our inner feelings.

CHELSEA

Inner feelings?! Yes!

JONI

Oh, yeah.

Chelsea and her mother high-five. Raven stares at them bizarrely before turning away, transfixed in a vision:

***

A door is opened to reveal a cute, young man standing on a front porch.

BRENT

Hi, I'm Brent. A bunch of us are throwing a party at the lodge. It's gonna' be off the hook. You wanna' roll through?

***

Cuts back to the present. Raven looks out of her vision and steps up out of her seat with an excited gasp.

RAVEN (gasp)

Yes!

Chelsea and Joni stand.

CHELSEA

So you're in?

RAVEN

Yeah. Yeah. I'm always down for a little bondy-feely stuff...that sort of thing.

JONI

Yay!

Chelsea and Joni run over and give Raven a hug from all sides.

***

Up in the woods at the cabin, Chelsea, Joni and Raven enter the empty room with their bags. Chelsea and Joni look around with a bright smile – and Raven frowns when she sees a man walk out with a television.

RAVEN

Wait, where you going with that, homie?

CHELSEA

Wow, mom, just what we ordered. The deluxe cabin.

RAVEN

Deluxe? Um, there's nothing in here.

JONI

Oh, I know. We had them de-lux it. Take out all the luxuries.

Another man walks out to the door with a stereo system. Raven tackles him for it.

RAVEN (as she tries for the machine)

Is that a...man, that's a stereo system!

The man dodges her and walks out. She turns back to Chelsea and Joni.

RAVEN

Why?

CHELSEA

Come on, Rae. We're gonna have so much fun bonding and getting in touch with our feelings we won't need a stereo system. Or a massage chair. Or a big flat screen TV.

RAVEN (dreamily walking on)

There was a flat screen?!

JONI

Oh, Raven. Believe me, you're not gonna miss any of it.

A man comes down carting a toilet on a trolley. Raven watches him leave.

RAVEN

I have a feeling I'm gonna miss that! (to herself as she closes the door) But I am not gonna miss that party.

***

Over at the Baxter residence, Cory, William and Larry are rehearsing for band in the living room. They all sing, while Cory plays the drums, Larry the electric guitar, and William the keyboard.

CORY/WILLIAM/LARRY (singing)

# Can you feel it

Can you feel the love

Nothin' feels better than feeling the love

Everybody knows that when push comes to shove

Nothin' feels better than feeling the love

Victor comes in from the kitchen with the vacuum as they continue indistinctly singing.

VICTOR

Hey, don't mind me guys.

Victor stops and walks over to William. He picks him up and puts him on the couch. The singing comes to a stop.

CORY

Stop, stop, stop! (to Victor) Dad, please. You can't pick up my keyboard player while we're rehearsing.

VICTOR

Hey, I'm sorry. But I've gotta' clean the house, my friend Mitch is coming by for dinner.

CORY (excited gasp)

You mean that hip-hop DJ?! Mad-Money Mitch with the Mighty Mega Mix?

VICTOR

Well, I just call him Mitch. But, he got a new job at the radio station here in Sanfrancisco.

Victor turns on the vacuum and starts cleaning again. Cory steps in front of him and turns it off.

CORY

Dad, dad! Please. We're rehearsing.

VICTOR

Fine, I'll start dinner. You guys can vacuum.

Victor walks out.

CORY

Yo, did you guys just hear that?

LARRY

Yep, we gotta vacuum.

CORY

No man, not that! DJ Mad Money Mitch with the Mighty Mega Mix is coming here!

LARRY

Oh, cool. We'll get him to vacuum!

Larry and William high-five.

CORY

No, no, no. Man, look, we're gonna get him to play our song on the radio.

WILLIAM

But Mad Money Mitch with the Mighty Mega Mix is a hip-hop DJ.

CORY

We're just gonna have to change our sound.

WILLIAM

By tonight?

CORY

Mm-hm.

LARRY

Man. I wish someone who lived and breathed hip hop would walk through that door right now.

And no sooner does Eddie Thomas come strutting through the front door with his headphones on and carrying a CD case.

EDDIE (beating)

Hey, twenty-four inches on the range. Two-million on the chain. I once...

As Eddie goes for the kitchen, Cory stops him.

CORY

H-hey, Eddie, my dawg! What's up, man?

EDDIE

Hey uh, man, I just made this CD for Raven for her trip.

CORY

Oh, she already left.

EDDIE

Oh, man. That's too bad. I'll hulla at you then.

Eddie heads for the door.

CORY (running after Eddie)

Hey, Eddie, what's the rush? Hey, let me drop some good news on you.

EDDIE

Good news?

CORY

Yeah, congratulations. You are the newest member of Cory and the Boys. (folds his arms)

Cory signals at Larry and William to fold their arms also.

EDDIE

Well, um...are ya'll still singing Feelin' the Love?

CORY

Yeah.

EDDIE

Well, I'm not feeling it. I'm gonna hulla at you...

Eddie continues for the door. Again Cory goes after him.

CORY

Eddie, man, come on! Look, we're trying to change our sound to hip hop.

EDDIE

Why?

CORY

Cause, my dad's friend is Mad Money Mitch.

EDDIE

With the Mighty Mega Mix?

CORY

Mm-hm.

EDDIE

Oh, man, he's one of the hottest DJ's in the country!

CORY

I know. He just got a new job here in Sanfrancisco, and he's coming here for dinner (with emphasis) tonight!

EDDIE (stepping down)

Well, uh...now I'm starting to feel the love. (to the boys) So can ya'll lay down the beat?

They all murmur 'yes' and go to their respective positions. Eddie takes the microphone, shields it with an arch and starts beat boxing. The boys start playing their instruments, and for a while, it mixes in with the timing of Eddie's beating...but all of a sudden, they play out of time and the music sounds classy rather than hip-"hoppy". Eddie steps aside and watches them in somewhat of a shameful expression by his face.

EDDIE (shouting)

Cut the music, ya'll! Stop!

Cory plays one final beat on the drum kit.

EDDIE

Hey! (to William, who is on the table with his keyboard) Get down. (turning away) Man. This is gonna take a whole lot of work.

***

Up at the cabin, Raven is sat beside Chelsea and Joni on the floor. They all have a pot with a small tree sprouted out of it in front of them. They munch at it. All looks good and jolly beside Raven,

CHELSEA

Mmmm. Mom, this edible tree fungus is del-ish.

JONI

Oh, I know.

Raven sticks some on her tongue and her face goes sour.

JONI

Nothing beats forging for your dinner on the forest floor. (calling over to Raven) How's your tree bark, Raven?

RAVEN (not wanting to offend)

Oh, it's...oh, it's great. Just like Mom used to make it.

As soon as Joni turns away, Raven spits out her mouthful of bark.

***

Raven and Chelsea are standing by the door. Joni runs over.

JONI

Who's ready for free-form yoga?

CHELSEA (gasps)

Freeform yoga?! Yes!

Chelsea and Joni give each other an excited high five.

RAVEN

Oh, I'm not really a yoga person so I'm just gonna' sit out.

JONI

Oh come on, we'll start with something easy. Come on!

Chelsea runs after her mother to the mats she has set up. Raven follows with a bored frown.

***

A short while later, soothing music plays as Raven watches Chelsea and Joni balance on their heads upside down on their blue mats. She tries, but fails, continually rolling on the ground. As she sits up she watches Chelsea and Joni high-five.

JONI

Isn't this relaxing?

Chelsea and Joni make triangles with their feet. Raven watches with disbelief.

***

Meanwhile, back home, Victor has just finished having a meal with Mitch, the former hip-hop DJ. Victor is standing behind the counter with a coffee at the bench and Mitch is sitting on a stool.

MITCH

Oh, that was a great meal Victor.

VICTOR

Mmm. It was great catching up, man.

MITCH

Yeah.

VICTOR

Yeah.

They hear some music coming from the lounge room.

VICTOR

Uhh...I think somebody wants our attention.

Victor puts his coffee mug down and leads the way through to the living room. Eddie has transformed the boys into a stylish hip hop group. Eddie takes the lead microphone, while Larry, dressed in bling, mans the electric guitar. Cory plays the drums and William plays around with a DJ machine.

EDDIE (rapping)

# Nothin' feels better than feeling the love

Now everybody knows that when push comes to shove

That nothin' feels better than feeling the love.

EDDIE/WILLIAM/LARRY/CORY (rapping)

# Feel that love

Can you feel that love?

When push comes to shove

You've got to feel that love

EDDIE (rapping)

# It doesn't really matter now who you are

Victor watches with shock, while Mitch watches with amusement. The boys continue rapping indistinctly.

VICTOR (to Mitch)

Um, sorry about the ambush, Mitch.

MITCH

Oh, that's okay. They're pretty good.

EDDIE (rapping)
# ...ya'll start to dance, and you'll never stop

EDDIE/LARRY/WILLIAM/CORY (rapping)

# Feel that love

Can you feel that love?

When push comes to shove

You've got to feel that love

They finish the song. Mitch and Victor cross over, applauding.

MITCH

All right!

CORY

So what did you think, Mr Mad-Money Mitch with the Mighty-Mega mix?

MITCH

Ya'll are pretty tight.

EDDIE

So, uh...ya'll gonna' put our song on the radio?

MITCH

No, uh...guys, the thing is, I'm no longer a hip hop DJ. My new station is country-western.

Cory stammers in disbelief.

MITCH

Yeah. From now on I'm known as (with a distinct country accent) Mad Mountain Mitch with the Good Old Country Hits.

EDDIE

I thought you loved hip hop, man.

MITCH

Well, the thing is, when you've got a kid going to College, and one who needs braces...you do what you gotta' do. (heading for the door) Well. Adios, amigos! (at the door, turns back) Oh, yeah, uh...I'm also known as Mad Maglate Midnight, on the Spanish station. (arches his arms) O-lay!

Mitch leaves.

CORY (to the boys)

Hey, you heard the man. Sometimes you do what you gotta do.

***

Back up in the cabin, Raven is sitting on a chair by the frosted window-door watching Chelsea and Joni dance around in circles.

JONI

I dance to show my fear of Chelsea growing up and not needing me anymore.

Joni loops her blanket around Chelsea.

CHELSEA

And I dance to show that even if I leave the nest (releases herself), I'll always fly back home for your organic gluten-free spaghetti.

They bow at each other.

JONI

Oh, honey! That was beautiful.

Joni gives Chelsea a hug.

All this while Raven has been scribbling HELP ME into the frosty glass of the window.

JONI (after releasing)

Hey, Raven! (Raven looks over with a wide face) You're not dancing.

RAVEN

Uhhh...

Raven scribbles out her message on the window.

RAVEN (standing)

Yeah, I was just writing down some steps.

Raven walks over between Chelsea and Joni. After a second, they hear some music playing from outside. Chelsea walks over to the door, but can't see anything through the frost.

CHELSEA

Sounds like someone's having a party.

RAVEN

Really?

Raven runs over to the door. Although she can't see anything, she starts shaking around and screaming with excitement. Chelsea and Joni join in as Raven dances over to them.

JONI

Yes! That's the spirit. What are you dancing to?

RAVEN (moving about)

I dance to joy. I dance to acceptment. And I'm dancing all the way to the bathroom to freshen up.

Raven screams with excitement again as she runs off upstairs.

CHELSEA (to Joni)

Wow, what got into...

Chelsea's sentence is interrupted by a knocking at the door. She walks over and answers it – just as in Raven's vision, a cute guy, Brett, steps forward.

BRENT

Hi, I'm Brent. A bunch of us are throwing a party at the lodge. It's gonna be off the hook! You wanna' roll through?

CHELSEA

Oh, actually...thanks, Brent, but we're kind of having a party of our own.

JONI

Oh, but you're welcome to join us. We're just about to scream for inner peace.

Joni and Chelsea open their mouths and breathe in peacefully. Brent stares at them with a bizarre look.

BRENT

Uh, thanks, but I've got a cab full of party people I've gotta get back to.

Chelsea nods.

BRENT (freaked out)

Yeah...

Brent walks off. Joni and Chelsea wave their blankets after him. Raven ducks her head out from the hallway with toothpaste all over her chin, as she brushes her teeth.

RAVEN

Who was that?

CHELSEA

Uh, some guy named Brent. I guess he was throwing a party.

Raven screams with excitement. She ducks behind the wall again and wipes the toothpaste off her mouth. She runs back over to the door.

RAVEN (excited)

Where'd he go? Where'd he go? Where'd he go?

CHELSEA

Oh, I 'dunno. I told him we were having a party of our own so I sent him away.

Raven's face turns pouty.

JONI

Who's ready for (dawning a facial expression) emotional charades?

CHELSEA

Emotional charades?! Yes!

Raven walks away from the door, crying with that same pouty look on her face.

JONI

Oh, I guess Raven's first. Now, let's see if we can try guess what emotion she's playing. (mocking Raven's look) Oh, oh! Despair, despair.

CHELSEA

Or, or...sorrow!

JONI

Hopelessness!

Raven signals that's the one. Joni jumps up with excitement.

CHELSEA

You rock, mom!

Raven whimpers, burying her face in her hands. She's lost hope.

***

The following morning, Raven yawns as she rolls over on her sleeping bag, which is set up down on the floor next to Joni and Chelsea's. She pulls off her covering and looks out the window.

RAVEN

Oh, it's morning. I can go home. (realizes) I can go home! (stands up) It's morning! I can go home!

Raven runs out the front door out onto the porch. It's been snowing all night. Joni approaches Raven with a broom.

JONI

Whoa! It snowed all night. Isn't it beautiful?

RAVEN

Oh yeah, it's gorgeous. Let's hit the road.

JONI (pulling Raven back)
Oh, no. We can't even find the road.

RAVEN (looking around)

What? Wait, what happened? Where'd it go?

JONI

Oh, a ranger came by. We're gonna' be snowed in here for at least three more days. I'm gonna' start a fire.

Joni pats Raven on the back and continues on inside. As Joni has gone, Raven screams.

***

Later on, Raven is pacing around in the cabin while Joni and Chelsea are sitting down singing the strumming of a guitar.

JONI

# I'd knock out hate and dig a tree

CHELSEA

# I'd knock out pain and poverty

JONI/CHELSEA

# I'd knock out every stinkin' bad thing that there in this whole stinkin' world.

The song comes to an end. Chelsea and her mom cheer.

JONI

What would you knock out, Rae?

RAVEN

Oh, I could think of a couple of things.

JONI

Okay. Who's ready for the quiet game?

CHELSEA (excited)

The quiet game?! Yes!

RAVEN

What's the quiet game?

JONI

That's where we block out the outside world so we can get in touch with our inner feelings.

RAVEN (forced smile)

Oh, them again.

CHELSEA

Yeah!

Chelsea runs over and gets the blindfolds from the other side of the room.

CHELSEA

Okay, you guys. Okay, now I want everybody to put their blindfolds on...

Chelsea comes and steps in between Joni and Raven, handing them each a blindfold and a pair of earplugs.

CHELSEA

Yeah. Earplug's in. (she and Joni have theirs on) Let the fun begin.

Chelsea and Joni sit down and begin the quiet game. Raven, sighing, as she puts on her blindfold, hears some music from outside and starts dancing.

RAVEN (to herself)

Hey! Wait a second, the music? (peers out the door and gasps) I think that party's back on! (pause) The party... (calling out to Joni and Chelsea) You guys? (whistles)

Chelsea and Joni are deep in thought. They can't hear a thing. Raven teasingly walks over to them.

RAVEN (to Joni and Chelsea)

Hello? (drops her blindfold and goes for her jacket) Can ya'll hear me? You can't! (laughs)

Raven starts putting on her jacket.

RAVEN (sing-song voice)
You can't hear me, I'm going to the party. (teasingly crossing Chelsea and Joni) Can you hear me? No, you can't. Can you hear me? No, you can't. (approaching the door) I'm going to the party. Can you hear me? No, you can't.

Raven's voice is enough to alert Chelsea. Taking off her blindfold, Chelsea jumps up and approaches Raven.

CHELSEA

Rae?

RAVEN (turning back)

Huh?

CHELSEA

Hey, where are you going?

RAVEN (unsure what to say)

Um...Chels, I'm going to the party.

CHELSEA

What? You're going to leave during the quiet game?

RAVEN (despairingly)

Chels, I wanted to leave during dinner.

CHELSEA

We're on our mother-daughter retreat, Rae. I thought you wanted to come with us.

RAVEN (pacing)

I can't take it anymore, okay? With the goofy games, and getting in touch with your inners...that's nasty.

CHELSEA

Well, if that's the way you feel, then why did you even come up here?

RAVEN

Truth is, I had a vision that a cute boy named Brent invited me to a party.

CHELSEA (hurt)

Of course. You'd ditch us for a cute boy and a party.

RAVEN

And a toilet.

CHELSEA (pacing aside)

Fine, Rae. You know? Go...go to your "toilet" party.

RAVEN

Fine. I will.

CHELSEA

Okay. I'm not even going to watch you.

Chelsea puts on her blindfolds as Raven opens the door.

RAVEN

Don't watch.

Raven steps out onto the front porch and brushes herself over, when she suddenly hears a voice...

CONSCIENCE (VO)

Where do you think you're going?

RAVEN (looking around for the source of the voice)

What in the world...?

Raven is engulfed in a blue energy, and with a twinkly piano note, out comes Raven's conscience, an exact replica of Raven herself.

CONSCIENCE

That's right, I'm your conscience.

RAVEN

Well, why are you here?

CONSCIENCE

You know why I'm here. How could you treat your best friend and her mother that way? Look at them.

RAVEN

I got a party to...

CONSCIENCE (interrupting, demanding)
I said look at them!

RAVEN

Oh-okay. (grunts) Who knew I'd have a bossy conscience?

Conscience smirks as Raven turns back and peers through the glass in the door. Chelsea and her mom are sitting on the floor, with their blindfolds on still, playing a hand game. Raven looks touched as she watches them.

RAVEN (guiltily)
They do look really sweet.

CONSCIENCE

Yeah, and they've been nothing but nice to you this whole entire trip.

RAVEN

Are you trying to make me feel guilty?

CONSCIENCE

Is it working?

RAVEN (scowls slightly)

Okay. I'll go back in.

CONSCIENCE

Right. (turning away with a jig) Well it's time to get my party on.

Conscience turns away, but Raven steps before her.

RAVEN

Hey, get back here!

Conscience steps back into Raven, and she is engulfed with the blue energy again as a twinkly sound plays. Raven sighs, and shivers as she turns back to the door. She tries opening the door, but it's locked. She knocks.

RAVEN (calling as she knocks)

Chelsea? Mrs. Daniels?

But Chelsea and Joni can't hear a thing. They're both deep in mediation with smiles on their faces. Raven's knocks get even more powerful.

RAVEN (knocking as she calls)
Chelsea?! Mrs. Daniels?!

Raven looks away and pulls up her hood, as snow starts flying past her even quicker.

RAVEN (to herself)

Oh, it's getting a little cold out here.

Raven turns back to the door and starts banging again.

RAVEN (calling)

Chelsea?! Mrs. Daniels?!

Raven gives up and steps back, and looks up just as a huge pile of snow falls down from the roof and lands all over her.

***

Over at the Chill Grill restaurant, Victor is standing at the door with Mitch.

VICTOR

Mitch, look, I really appreciate you coming down to see Cory and the Boys again.

MITCH

Oh, na'ah, these guys were good. So I thought I'd bring a few of my friends to hear them.

Three young men enter behind each other. They're dressed in clothes with bling and style. Mitch and Victor follow after.

VICTOR (to Mitch)
U-um, they're from the country station?

MITCH

Oh, no, no, no. These are my friends from the old hip hop station. I thought they could help out the boys.

VICTOR

Oh. (a doubtful expression fills his face) Uh-oh.

MITCH

Huh?

VICTOR

Oh, nothing. I-I just have to go backstage for one second.

But it's to late – as Victor walks away the spotlight turns on from the stage. Cory and the Boys come out on the hay-lined stage in country overalls, yelping.

CORY (to the audience)

Howdy do?!!!!! I'm Cory and these are the good ol' boys.

The hip-hop DJs, watching, exchange a glance with each other.

CORY

Take it away, cousin Eddie!

EDDIE

Alrightie!

Country music starts playing as they sing:

CORY/EDDIE/WILLIAM/LARRY (country singing)

# Feelin' the love

Keep feelin' the love

Nothin' feels better than feelin' the love

Everybody knows that when push comes to shove

Nothin' feels better than feeling the LOOOVEEE.

The song comes to an end. The DJs look with shame.

EDDIE

Now cut those house lights, I wanna see all that good country lovin'. Yeeeeee...

As Eddie turns he spots eyes on the DJs and realizes his mistake.

EDDIE

Oh...

Mitch approaches the boys as they come off the stage.

MITCH

H-hey guys, what are you doing? I-I thought you were a rap group.

CORY

Yeah, and we thought you were a country DJ.

MITCH

I am. And I brought along my hip-hop friends to listen to your sound.

The DJs walk past as they leave, looking away from the boys.

CORY (calling after the DJs)

Oh, ya'll, don't go! We can change!

EDDIE

Yeah, just give us one more chance! Put your hands in the air!

LARRY

...And wave them like you just don't care!

The DJs are gone. Cory turns away.

CORY

They don't care.

***

Back up in the cabin, Chelsea and Joni's silent game is coming to an end. They both exhale a deep breath and take off their blindfolds at the same time. They look at each other and smile as they take off their earphones.

CHELSEA

Man, those three hours just flew by.

JONI

Yeah. (looking around) Hey, where's Raven?

Chelsea and Joni stand up.

CHELSEA

Ummm...yeah, actually. Mom, we kinda' had a fight and she went to that party.

JONI

Why would she do that?

CHELSEA

'Cause, she thinks all the stuff we do together is kinda' weird.

JONI (laughing)

W-where's that coming from?

Chelsea shrugs with a smile. There is a patter at the door.

CHELSEA

Oh, what's that?

Chelsea goes and opens the frosted door. An unidentifiable Raven is standing there, frozen all over with ice, still as a stone. Chelsea screams.

CHELSEA

Snow beast!

She closes the door and jumps into Joni's arms.

JONI

Honey, come on. (puts Chelsea down and heads for the door) There's no such thing as...

Joni opens the door and gets the same shock as Chelsea.

JONI

Snow beast!

Joni closes the door and jumps into Chelsea's arms.

CHELSEA

You lied to me.

JONI

My mother lied to me to, honey.

CHELSEA

About snow beasts?

JONI

No. About everything else.

Joni gets down.

JONI

Or, the snow beast...

Joni opens the door again.

JONI

...is Raven. She's freezing!

Chelsea and Joni go either side of Raven and haul her inside, with much struggle.

CHELSEA

Oh, my goodness.

JONI

Okay, okay. How do we thaw her out?

CHELSEA

Ummm...we'll put her in the fireplace.

They try to lift her over towards the fireplace, but Raven shouts her protest. Raven murmurs something through her frozen lips.

JONI

She's trying to tell us something.

Raven murmurs again.

CHELSEA

I think she's saying oil can?

JONI

No, no...she wants a hug.

CHELSEA

Mom, come on. I told you, she's not into that stuff. She doesn't want us to hug her.

But Raven's saying otherwise, having her hands stretched out in front of her.

JONI

See? Yes she does.

CHELSEA

Or she does...

Chelsea and Joni lift up the frozen arm on either side and place themselves against Raven. Chelsea looks up to Raven's face.

CHELSEA

Oh, look mom. She's crying.

JONI

No honey, she's melting. Keep hugging.

And they do so.

***

Later on, Raven is sitting by the fireplace with her dressing gown on and a hot cushion held to her head. Joni walks over with a blanket.

JONI

Are you warming up, honey?

RAVEN

Mmm-hmm. Thank you so much for thawing me out.

JONI

Oh, yeah.

RAVEN

And, look – I'm very sorry. You guys were being nothing but nice to me, and all I could think about was that party.

JONI

Oh, well. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy our activities. You know, Chelsea and I kind of...do things a little differently.

RAVEN

Yeah, you do. (gets up with Chelsea and Joni) But I never gave it a chance. There's nothing wrong with a little mother-daughter bonding. And Mrs Daniels, you are kinda' like a mom to me.

JONI (touched)

Oh.

CHELSEA

To me too.

RAVEN

You know what? I think I need a hug.

CHELSEA

Oh, are you still cold Rae?

RAVEN (smiling)

No. I'm just feelin' the love.

Raven outstretches her arms and Chelsea and Joni give her a hug.

Cory, William and Larry are rehearsing band in the Baxter living room again.

CORY/WILLIAM/LARRY (singing)

# Can you feel it

Can you feel the love

Nothin' feels better than feeling the love

Everybody knows that when push comes to shove

Nothin' feels better than feelin' the love

CORY

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about!

LARRY

Yeah, from now on, we're keeping it real.

CORY

Yeah.

Eddie comes in through the front door with a newspaper.

EDDIE

Hey Cory, boys. Look at this. Somebody's looking to hire a new band. Although, it's not really our type of music.

CORY

Oh, nope. In that case, no way. Cause we just said, we are never selling out again.

EDDIE

Well that's too bad. 'Cause it says here, they're paying two hundred dollars.

The boys exchange a glance.

Cory, Eddie, William and Larry are up on stage singing with Scottish clothes on. William is pacing around with a bagpipe.

CORY/EDDIE/LARRY/WILLIAM

# Can you feel it

Can you feel the love

Nothing feels better than feeling the love

Everybody knows that when push comes to shove

Nothing feels better than feeling the love

The song comes to an end. William blows into the bagpipe to hard, gets dizzy, ad falls to the ground as he looses his breath. The boys stare at him.
